Special Exhibition at the Dutch Pavilion, Expo Osaka

“Bridging Past and Future” | 20–25 May 2025

We are honoured to have been invited to participate in the special exhibition Bridging Past and Future at the Dutch Pavilion during Expo 2025 Osaka. This exhibition celebrates 425 years of exchange between Japan and the Netherlands — from the historic connection through Dejima to today’s creative and cultural collaborations.

MONO JAPAN proudly presented two of our key initiatives:

MONO MAKERS PROGRAM
Highlighting the next generation of cross-cultural craftsmanship, this programme brings together Dutch designers and Japanese manufacturers in a journey of co-creation and shared knowledge.

AKIYA AIR
A creative residency that explores new possibilities for Japan’s vacant traditional homes. Through design, research, and cultural exchange, this project connects artists with local communities to give new meaning to old spaces.

Our presentation was at the heart of the exhibition space — a beautifully simple display of two objects representing each programme, accompanied by concise posters. Despite its minimal form, the exhibition successfully communicated the essence and impact of our work.

The exhibition opened on 21 May with a special celebration attended by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, alongside many of the contributors and partners involved. We were grateful to be part of this historic moment and share in the spirit of connection and creativity that defines our work.
