About the Exhibitor
kiten.kyoto is a brand dedicated to supporting the works of daily life. It was launched by the long-established KatouKen Flag Shop, which has been producing flags, noren (traditional Japanese shop curtains), and draperies in Kyoto for over 70 years.
For generations, KatouKen Flag Shop has viewed flags and curtains as symbols of its customers' works, carefully crafting each piece with authentic materials, manufacturing methods, and techniques. The company’s identity lies in supporting people’s work through craftsmanship.
Carrying forward this ethos, kiten.kyoto uses authentic techniques to deliver items that complement “work” in diversifying lifestyles and enduring daily lives, offering a little more convenience with an extra touch of excitement.
The brand name 'kiten.kyoto' draws from two meanings: the phonetic reading of the verb 'yorisou' (to support)—a core concept in KatouKen’s philosophy—and the term 'kiten' (starting point). This name reflects the brand's aspiration to encourage and support new beginnings in its customers' lives, whether it's trying out a new recipe or embarking on a first camping trip.

The Work Apron series
MAKU: An apron inspired by the shape of shrine curtains, incorporating production methods used for noren curtains.
HANNOREN: An apron with stylish, ample pockets designed for ease of movement and functionality.
NOREN: A modern kappo-gi (Japanese-style apron) designed with a noren curtain-style slit, perfect for everyday wear such as shopping or casual outings.
The HANTEN. Sleeve and Pouch
Crafted from durable fabric traditionally used for hanten coats, these laptop cases and pouches feature vibrant outer colours and beautifully textured Hitoe Sashiko fabric on the inner lining.
The TOZAI Series
Created in collaboration with Dutch designer Laura Luchtman (from Kukka Design), this series features gowns and Knot Bags dyed using traditional kimono techniques.
Noren. craft kyoto
Most recently, kiten.kyoto launched Noren. craft kyoto, a new noren curtain brand for the European market, showcasing collaborative designs with creators, semi-custom noren, and naturally dyed pieces.
