About the Exhibitor
YURAI is a jewellery brand reinterpreting Japanese crafts through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from traditional techniques, regional materials, and the heritage of craftsmanship, YURAI develops modern styles while honouring the aesthetic sensibilities passed down through generations.
The brand’s name, YURAI (meaning “origin”), reflects its philosophy: inheriting the beauty and knowledge woven by people along the path of craft.
For centuries, local crafts have reflected the distinctive character of each region—its history, techniques, and natural environment. YURAI embraces these regional identities, transforming the traditions and aesthetics inherited from them into jewellery that offers a fresh interpretation of craft today.
About the Products
YURAI will be presenting jewellery inspired by two traditional craft regions: SERIES 01 and SERIES 02.
SERIES 01 features porcelain jewellery made with Hataman Toen, a kiln in Imari, Saga. The designs draw on the shapes of traditional Japanese plates, blurring the boundary between tableware and jewellery with playful elegance. While rooted in Japanese aesthetics, the pieces have a contemporary, edgy form. Each piece is hand-painted by skilled artisans, giving the motifs depth and individuality.
SERIES 02 showcases Nishijin-ori textile jewellery, crafted using the ancient tsuzure-ori technique. Produced by the Nishijin weaving studio Kiyohara Orimono, the series draws inspiration from the beauty of Lake Biwa. Handwoven silk threads create subtle gradients in bangle bracelets, giving them presence as both jewellery and objects of art. Patterns inspired by reflections on the lake’s surface are expressed in indigo-dyed bangles paired with silver and gold earrings.
