About the Exhibitor
Annaj reimagines traditional Japanese beauty for modern life by transforming upcycled obi (kimono sash) and obijime (decorative cord for kimono) into contemporary bags and accessories. Once reserved for celebratory occasions, vibrant kimono and obi textiles are now rarely worn; Annaj gives them new life as everyday pieces.
Working exclusively with high-quality obis from across Japan, including Nishijin weaving, gold-thread brocades, and embroidered textiles, the brand blends traditional elegance with modern design. Bag handles made from obijime cords add refinement and pair naturally with today’s clothing.
Each piece is crafted in Toyooka, Hyogo, Japan’s leading bag-making region, by skilled artisans who carefully consider the thickness of each obi and the orientation of every pattern to ensure precise cutting and stitching.
The name “Annaj,” combining Anna with Japan, reflects the brand’s aim to bridge fashion and tradition. By upcycling unused obis and kimonos, Annaj helps pass kimono culture on to future generations. A portion of sales supports women’s organisations, making Annaj a brand recognised not only for its craftsmanship but also for its positive social impact.
