About the Exhibitor
atelier One2 is a studio based in Funagata, Yamagata Prefecture, founded in 1956. By combining locally sourced Japanese wood with traditional craftsmanship, the atelier creates furniture and custom kitchens, handling everything from planning and design to production and installation. They also design and craft chopsticks and household items, ensuring no material goes to waste.
Before mass production, everyday tools and clothing were made to order—a practice that evolved into today’s custom-made approach. The studio continues this spirit, beginning each project in the studio’s small atelier along the banks of the Mogami River, where dialogue with clients turns ideas about function, lifestyle, and design into unique, personal creations.
atelier One2 also hosts chopstick-making workshops, teaching proper carving techniques and encouraging participants to value and care for the objects they use.
The studio is guided by a commitment to creating items that bring quiet happiness to daily life and can be treasured over time—simple, yet essential.
As part of its dedication to sustainability, Atelier One2 repurposes sawdust from woodworking, mixing it with leaves and livestock compost to create fertile soil for growing vegetables.
